To contain the nuclear waste, the final disposal facility should be located several hundred meters underground. It was found that rocks and sands in the earth's crust would be able to block most of the radiations from coming out of the nuclear waste facility. Scientist have found a natural nuclear reactor that had reactivity and also highly radioactive waste product which stayed put without the elaborate containment we use today on nuclear power plant waste." More than a billion years later, everything is contained within a few meters of its source." (quoted from http://geology.about.com/od/geophysics/a/aaoklo.htm).

For those who are wondering that the radiation is not leaking but it is actually harming the environment by the leakage of the radioactive waste, the solution for it has already been done. It was found that if the radioactive waste is mixed with glass the waste would become immobilized. Which means it would not leak into the environment.
I support the idea of practising nuclear waste management as it can contributes to the Earth by being more "green". Some people might think the idea of messing with nuclear-related-products are risky. That is not far from the truth but with the right prevention, this issue can be prevented. Furthermore, by practising this, there will be no more burning fossil fuels or spreading tons of CO2 to the atmosphere.

Hye..By all these days, i keep wondering how nuclear waste can be disposed.By reading your article,i felt so greateful to know that nuclear waste does not leak into the environment. With the all disposal and all the protection in it,Malaysia can continue its mission to introduce nuclear energy. :)

It is a very good idea on managing the nuclear waste but the cost of the canisters could be the problem though. Would it be better to develope solar technology which does not produce any waste at all? That kind of canister does look pretty expensive to store some waste.

This system is very good and should show to the real public so our public minded about the nuclear radiation will change, by the way, would you show the costing of this system and give the good reason from the costing of this system to compare with our current power plant and the beneficial to our economy to make the statement stronger

Let say according to the idea suggested we locate the disposal facility several hundred meters underground. But let say by chance it has leak out some how.And my question is how are you going to identify it as it is located several hundre meters underground..( VIMALAN A/l GENASAN vimalan_12@yahoo.com )
